Summer Learning!

So, my vacation hasn't officially started yet.  I have the pleasure of participating in a great two week  workshop this summer. I am really excited about what we will be learning. It is called SEE Math and it is sponsored by a grant through the Tennessee Department of Education and Lipscomb University. It focuses on number sense, geometry, and problem solving. I am really excited because I know my students are going to benefit from my experience here. I plan to blog about some of the activities we do. I am excited to share what I learn with you!

The first day was great! We got an iPad to use with our students. I can't wait to download apps and put them to use. I know my students will really enjoy using it too.

What are some iPad apps you use in your classroom? I want to come up with a list so I can start downloading!

No Worksheet Wednesdays!

Today we took the time to review some good ol' place value! We whipped out our base ten blocks and got to work.  We reviewed place value, addition, and subtraction.

I love using base ten blocks because they help my students make concrete connections.  They sometimes have trouble with the abstract of math.  Today we used these, but sometimes we use the unifix cubes so they can pull them on with subtraction with regrouping. 

We will continue to review this skill until the end of the year.  So glad we were able to have a little fun with the blocks today.

Ms. DeCarbo for Wordless Wednesday!  This is one of my favorite linky parties because I am a visual person and I love looking at pictures. 

 

This week I am revamping my math centers.  I have decided to group them by the Common Core domain.  I think my students will do well with this and it will be easier for me to provide differentiated instruction to my math groups.

 

My question:  What do you do for your math groups?  How do you differentiate instruction?

Hey guys!  I just posted these math task cards.  These are Thanksgiving themed cards that your students will love!!  You can use them in a variety of ways.  They can be used as a pre-assessment, a post-assessment, a game of scoot, or as math review. 

There are 5 common core standards covered.  That means there are 5 sets with 32 question each!!  What a great way to keep your students engaged.
